Altex Is Turning Up The Heat!

April 27, 2022

Another exciting project has been completed by our team - completion and start-up of our in-house stress-relieving oven!

This project started in December and the oven was designed in house at Altex. Femi Amosu provided the electrical and instrument controls design while Tyler Munz and crew worked on the construction.

Daren Aubie, Brian Stollery, and Ariel Saniel provided support and resources at the management level.

This oven replaces an older and much smaller unit. We can now accommodate exchangers up to 10 feet in diameter and 20 feet in length (enclosed). Longer units can be completed in two parts or with additional local PWHT.

Once inside the oven, the exchanger or component will be Post Weld Heat Treated (PWHT) or Stress Relieved (SR) by increasing the temperature gradually up to about 1125°F, and typically held for up to 6 hours or as required by ASME Code.

PWHT is performed to:

1. Reduce, relieve, and redistribute the residual stresses in the material that have been introduced during welding and is required as per Code, API, process (sour service), or customer specification.

2. Relieve the stresses in U-tubes introduced during bending process.

This oven helps Altex meet schedule and control costs, providing greater value to our customers.
